Do you really want an online business or just an online job?

I talk a lot about building an online business.

For some readers, it’s overwhelming. I get it. There is a lot to running an online business. You are the one who has to “figure it out” … everyday.

Maybe you don’t want an online business … you just want to make some money, without having to go out in the crazy offline world.

You don’t want an online business … you want an online job.

What is the difference?

If you build an online business, then you are responsible for everything … including figuring out what the business is going to be in the first place. You need to decide on a strategy. Let’s say building an email list and selling them affiliate products. Then you have to figure out how to do that.

How do you build an email list in the most effective way? How do you communicate with that list in a way that gets them to know, like and trust you? What products might your list be interested in? How can you put together an offer that is compelling and gets your subscribers to take action? Those are all questions that YOU have to figure out.

You can get help from a coach, like me, but I can’t give you a step by step detailed plan for solving every problem. Each person’s situation is unique and will require a different combination of solutions to get to the finished product. I can help guide you, but I cannot solve all your problems with a cookie cutter solution.

With an online job, it is different.

You have a particular task you are expected to do, and you get paid for doing that task. Just like your offline job, but without the commute. If you need skills to complete that job, then they are taught to you and because you have limited responsibility, they are manageable.

In the offline world, If you work at a factory building cars on an assembly line, then it isn’t your job to design the cars. It isn’t your job to get government approvals to build the cars. It isn’t your job to get the financing to build the factory. It is your job to attach the door to the car … that’s it!

You can become an expert at attaching doors. You can hone that skill until you are the best person at attaching doors on the planet. You can do it fast and the doors never fall off while driving down the highway. 🙂 You are a pro at one particular activity inside a bigger system.

That is very different from being the CEO of the car company, like Elon Musk.

It is important right now for you to be honest with yourself. Don’t be influenced by the fact that we put “business owners” on a pedestal in society. Do you REALLY WANT everything that goes along with running your own business and being responsible for EVERYTHING. Are you up to the challenge?

If you have been trying to make money online, but you resist all the things you need to learn. You resist getting out of the comfort zone and trying new things. You keep treating your “business” like a lottery ticket … hoping for the big win by being in the right program at the right time. You haven’t embraced learning about the technology you need. You aren’t reading marketing and copy-writing books in your spare time to hone your skills.

If you are not fully into the process of BECOMING a successful entrepreneur BEFORE you actually start seeing the rewards, then you will probably never make it. It is harsh, but true. If you don’t love the process, then you will never make it through the hard times. You won’t do what is necessary to be successful.

You don’t need an online business … you need an online job.

I have been doing this for 12 years and I have met very few beginners who really wanted to do what it takes to have an online business. Most of them just wanted to make money … as quickly as possible. If you start a business for the money, then you won’t make it. It takes a while for the money to come and few people have the patience to keep doing the work without the immediate reward.

I don’t do this for the money. I would make much more money if I used my skills in other ways. I get paid a lot more to work with 7 and 8 figure influencers to create products and manage their launches. My mission is not about the money … it’s about the impact that I am trying to have with people who are just trying to get started online.

I want to make a difference in your life. Maybe that difference is helping to make sure you are on the right path for your skills and what you want to accomplish.

Getting real with WHY you are here is the starting point to being on the right path. Most people are on the WRONG path for THEM.
